School Auction Ceramic Bowl

Our school has two main auctions for the year.  The first one is the Spring Social.  This is the one you pay money to go to, where they feed you very little food and provide a LOT of alcohol.  There are tons of gift baskets, vacation trips, gift certificates, and a live auction.  There is also usually a cute something made by the kids of each classroom as part of the decorations.  We have our art auction later in the year, at the school and they serve popcorn... and water.  Perhaps you've seen some of my previous art auction projects (Our Neighborhood, Vase With Flowers, Our Universe, Reno's Best)

This year each class painted a molded ceramic bowl (cone 04).  I found myself inspired by a poster from www.allposters.com that I found via pinterest.

I sketched the basic design onto the bowl with pencil.  I took grey and blue glaze, mixed them together in various shades and then let each kid fill in two or three circles.

If anyone bumped the brush on the rim on their way into the bowl, or went a little crazy, I was armed with a wet towel to clean it up.  I didn't have to use it once as these second graders were amazingly steady this day.

Using black glaze in a fine tipped bottle I followed all the pencil lines and outlined all the circles.  I then took a brush and stippled the center of both dandelions.

Unfortunately part of one of the flowers got a little smudged with the clear glaze the bowl was dipped into after the flowers dried.  But I think it's still super cute.

The following are a couple pictures of other bowls that will be available at the Spring Social.  I'm currently starting to work on the Art Auction Project and look forward to sharing it with you soon!
