Sonoma Wedding at the Kunde Cave
Good friends Cynthia and Gabe were married last weekend at the beautiful Kunde Winery in Sonoma County. Dan and I got a sitter for the kids and drove down a day early with friends Dylan & Kristy. We had a fun tour down the memory lanes of our college campus at Sonoma State University and stayed two nights at The Flamingo Resort.
The ceremony took place in one of the Kunde hillside caves. Candles and wine barrels lined our path as we walked 175 feet below the Chardonnay vineyard into the cool cave air tinged with a slight smell of oak and fermenting grapes.
Carved by ancient volcanic lava flows, the cave held a limited number of people which brought a sense of intimacy and honor to the guests. I kept a watchful eye for long skirts and candles to not make a close acquaintance.
Iced tea, lemonade and water with strips of cucumber were available to sip while waiting for the bus to take us to the reception venue, a small house up the hill from the cave. I love the elegance of the cucumber strips verses the usual slices.

Table assignments were listed on beautiful old window panes with a metal stand built by a friend.
This is where the fun really began. Good wine and great friends....
